February 12th

Got a couple of births today - February 12th.  The first one is of Adam Christie who we've heard of quite a bit in other posts.  He is your great great grandfather.  He was grandma's grandfather.

Adam was born in Banff, Scotland which is north of Aberdeenshire where he ends up.  This is in the far north east of Scotland.

Being born in 1835, he was the youngest, the 10th child for John Christie and Helen Gordon.  For a while I having been playing around with the idea that he may actually be their grandchild raised as their child - and the jury is still out on this one.  There was already a child called Adam.  I haven't found this Adam's death but I also haven't found anything else about him.  But if he died then the parents may very well have used the name again particularly as Adam is a family name.  And secondly, the mother was quite old - late 40's but that's (a) possible but also (b) I may have the mother's birth year wrong.

The second birth on this day - in 1861 - was of James Fisken your first cousin 4Xremoved. He was born in Trinity Gask in Perthshire, Scotland.  He is the son of James Fisken one of the siblings of the plough inventor William Fisken and also your 3xgreat grandfather Peter Fisken.

James, the father of today's James, was very late in marrying.  He was 43.  His wife - and James's mother, Janet Bayne, was 21.  James was their third child and sadly his dad died before he was actually born.  His mother remarried and I have found references to James using his stepfather's name - so he may have become James Penney.  But not sure which name he used in actual fact in his adulthood.
